Building the Ireland Alberta Trade Corridor

Like many of you, 2021 brought many challenges and opportunities across our desks and doorsteps. With the ups and downs of the pandemic and the economic repercussions that came with the changing situations, many of us found ourselves seeking new ways to move forward.

For both Ireland and Alberta, diversification of our economies, along with increasing access to new markets through international trade are a crucial part of long-term, sustainable growth.

There is a rich history between Ireland and Alberta. We have a shared focus on a range of sectors and seeking new markets to grow and succeed is a strong path forward. With significant sectorial expertise in common between Alberta and Ireland including agribusiness, energy, cleantech, environment, financial services, aerospace, life sciences, education, tourism and more, we have so many synergies.

In 2019, Alberta exported $22.59M worth of all products to Ireland, while Ireland imported $119.16B worth of all products in 2019. There are substantial opportunities for growth between our two regions.

The Ireland Alberta Trade Association (IATA) provides services and connections in support of bi-lateral trade between Ireland and Alberta. We highlight sectorial expertise and strengths between Alberta and Ireland and drive connections to build a vibrant economic corridor between our two regions.

Through the growth of our organization to support bilateral trade throughout Alberta and Ireland, we are looking forward to 2022 and the promise for increased trade that comes with the collaboration between our two economies and our people.

In the coming months, our partners and members will be able to explore, develop and create relationships and connections between Ireland and Alberta through the Ireland Alberta Trade Association. We hope you will join us.

It’s time for a focus on growth outside our borders. To take what we have collectively learned, the expertise we have developed, the relationships we have fostered and the successes in each of our regions and come together to grow, expand and reach further than we have before.

Wishing you all the very best of this Season and we look forward to seeing you in 2022!

And what needs to be done to attract more capital, people and foreign investment?
